Howdy once again, sport fans!

Things are continuing to move forward on the book, with more great art from Mike and Josh and more terrible Nazi jokes from yours truly. Right now I'm researching German IR equipment, Josh is working on an illustration of the V3 bunker complex and Mike is cooling his heels because I've been so busy with other crap I've fallen behind the curve. You may notice that this has also resulted in a delayed mailing list update. Actually, you probably hadn't noticed, but there's the reason anyway for those of you who were pining for an email from the list.

Writing a book is a whole lot of horrible fun. When I signed to do this book I thought to myself "150 pages or so, no problem, I write 15 pages a week already." I never stopped to think about stuff like actually researching each chapter, coordinating with the artists, coordinating with designers, coordinating with the publisher, laying out the book, font sizes, inserts, bleeds, borders and promotions. I could have probably just left everything in the capable hands of Kensington, but hey, I'm really stupid and I just want to make a good book even if I end up losing money on the darn thing. I also sort of forgot I still write 15 pages a week in addition to my book commitment, so keeping motivated has been a real challenge.

Say you work at a realty company for nine hours a day. You really love working at that realty company, so you figure you might as well be a realtor in your spare time too. Suddenly you're spending 16 hours a day as a realtor. Realty loses a little bit of its magic. I'm not complaining, this is great and I love it, but anyone who tells you it's easy is a filthy liar and I challenge them preemptively to a duel.

On to the update portion of this!

The sample chapter is roughly 95% complete and will be made available in the not-too-distant future to members of the mailing list. Suji Allen is doing a great job with that stuff. I feel sort of sorry for her because Jim Boswell got to do all the really fun stuff with Josh on the cover design. The cover design is awesome, by the way, but I don't think you guys are quite ready to handle the full spectrum of its awesomeness.

Mike recently completed the drawings of the VS8 transport hydrofoil that I mentioned in last month's mailing list. You can check out a picture here:

And here is an early WIP from Josh's work on the V3 bunker artwork:

You'll probably next be hearing from me in mid November or so and if everything has gone according to plan all of the remaining chapters will have been completed. At this point the finish line is in sight but our muscles are all aching and that last half-mile is uphill.

By the way, Kensington has signed up a bunch of Internet quasi-celebrities (including me!) to write books and Tucker Max has just completed his. I think it's about ladder theory or something. If that sort of thing interests you then I encourage you to check it out. His site is also a great place to buy Viagra and see pictures of hot babes so if you maybe need either of those you can check out his book info while you're there.

Love,

Zack
