Battle Raper: HYPER REALACTION

The fighting engine may look good, but trust me when I say that it is definitely not.

Game Plot: Being out of the loop when it comes to the Japanese language has caused me to miss out on reviewing a vast number of Hentai games that were so perverse no one even bothered to port them over to English for fear that they might cause a third atomic bomb to be dropped on the island nation. While "Battle Raper: HYPER REALACTION" may toe the line when it comes to causing a nuclear strike against Japan, the real reason it will probably never see translation is because it doesn't require any to be able to play it fully. The only parts of the game actually in Japanese are the dialogues between characters, one of the most "exciting" parts of any fighting game, and the installation and pre-game menus. While this may make the game hard to play with mapped keys on a joystick the incredible lack of depth in the game's fighting engine saves that from counting as much of a loss.

There are a total of five fighters to choose from in the game, four female and one male. When you begin their story mode you are treated to an extremely well-done CGI animation that makes no sense and is compressed so heavily that it looks like someone smeared grease over your computer screen. Really, I can't stress enough how much effort went into rendering the characters, they're easily on par with any console game's CGI that I have seen, but like all Hentai games the good is immediately and overwhelmingly offset by the bad. In this case a combination of downright fucking retarded compression levels (the game is on two goddamn CDs, I mean come on) and content.

Bullet time and flying clothes, it's what Miss Cleo always said the future would hold.After the jaunty little movies that pay far too much attention to the character's breasts, crotch, and backside, the real action begins. Well, not really, first you get to sit through still images of the character you have chosen and the character you are about to fight going back and forth probably talking about how much rape is going to take place in the impending match. I don't know, all of the text is in Japanese. Occassionally during these sequences the screen will show a picture of a man who appears to be exploding in all red. I believe this is the only male character, Zenon, who also happens to be the last boss. He's in some aircraft that looks like a cross between The Hindenburg and a toaster from the 1950's. God - and a few Japanese people - only knows why you have to beat and molest three other women to gain the opportunity to travel to his airship and get your ass handed to you in ten seconds by Zenon.

I commented earlier very briefly on how shitty Battle Raper's fighting engine is, but let me going into detail on that. The graphics are about on par with Tekken 2 in terms of environments and character models, which I admit is fairly impressive for a Hentai game. The animation is roughly as fluid as a river composed of cinderblocks, with stiff armed attacks that have maybe three times as many frames as an oil painting. Attack effects are limited, in most cases, to blue and yellow flashes of energy with horrible transparency boxes that are frequently visible as a white haze around the effect.

Just like any other fighting game you are placed in a fairly limited arena with your opponent and encouraged by a timer to beat the shit out of them. The controls for your character are very clumsy, making it difficult to know what buttons to press when. The attacks at your disposal are also limited to a mixture of punches, kicks, grapples, and a few special moves. Adding to the frustration of the mediocre controls is the fact that every time you actually do press buttons they apparently are transmitted to your onscreen persona by some sort of mounted courier or possibly smoke signal. To say the game is unresponsive is like saying that a video of your grandmother giving a horse a rimjob is not the most erotic thing in the world. While you and your opponent stiffly animate around, making attacks as if you're immersed in paste, various meters raise and lower depending on how well you're doing.

Please note the tears.While the kicks and punches delivered in the game are very standard, the grapples involve the screen going to a close up as your character executes a complex series of wrestling/molesting moves. The two I saw, and maybe the only two in the game, involve rubbing your opponents chest from behind to inflict damage, then following it up with a brutal vertical suplex that ends in a pin, as the camera zooms in on their blocky (and clothed thankfully) polygonal crotch. I tried to get screenshots of this sequence but the game didn't like me taking screenshots during these sequences or the special move sequences. Needless to say it is especially amusing when a female character rubs and squeezes Zenon's non-existent breasts. During the course of a match you can literally beat the clothing off of your opponent, or they can beat it off of you. When their health bar is significantly reduced a CGI still frame of your opponent's horrified face will show up and then the screen will go black and you will be treated to a matrix-style freeze frame of their top layer of clothes being blown off their body. You can rotate the camera around to get a good look. This is repeated at the end of the match where their next layer of clothing also blows away, leaving them in only panty bottoms. Wow! Technology! 21st Century!If she looks like she's enjoying being raped in this shot from a cut scene, I promise that she's not.In addition to kicks, punches, and grapples, there are special attacks which seem to be divided into two categories. The first category I will call "molestation attacks" and you can execute these by grappling your opponent when their guard meter is lowered from being brutalized with devastating chest rubs. Like a normal grapple attack the screen fades to black, only this time you will be presented with either your opponent's bare breasts or panty-clad crotch. It should be noted that this is their state of undress regardless of whether or not they were clothed before and after the attack is executed. In fact they are only topless at the VERY end of a match. During the molestation you execute button and arrow presses to molest either their breasts or groin and raise a "damage" meter as a timer rapidly counts down to determine how much damage the attack inflicts. If you are playing as Zenon you can also "face rape" your opponent in a scene where each time you jam their head down onto Zenon's invisible penis tears stream down their cheeks. I honestly thought I would never see the day when polygonal characters wept as their face was raped, even in Hentai games. Thankfully, I guess, Zenon is immune to these attacks.

The other category of attacks is "power" attacks which you can perform when your character's "yellow bar of mystery" is maxed out. When you execute one the screen goes black once again and your character does a little jig and casts some sort of spell attack on your opponent. The attacks looks similar to an old Playstation "Final Fantasy" game; nothing too spectacular but definitely a little unexpected from a fighting game.

Once you beat the game with all of the characters you unlock all of the rape cut scenes, rape-related rendered stills, and molestation sequences for your future amusement. Since I can only hypothesize about the actual plot of Battle Raper, I will turn instead to the characters featured in the game and attempt to create a plot based simply on their appearances throughout the game. With a staggeringly huge total of five to summarize this may take ten pages!

Zenon
Hentai/Anime Archetype: Evil rapist guy, made obvious by white hair.
Appearance: Homosexual biker gang member. He wears leather pants, a leather jacket, and what appears to be a training bra made out of mesh. His penis is translucent.
Story: Zenon is obviously taking over the world in Battle Raper. Why else would he be flying around in an airship and laughing all of the time? I'll answer that, there is no other reason. He has created a tournament called "HYPER REALACTION" in an effort to attract a number of fine women to fight for his amusement. He will then battle the winner for no particular reason.Mai Kisaragi
Hentai/Anime Archetype: Cutesy Japanese traditional girl.
Appearance: A prim and proper young geisha in thigh-high red stockings, robes, and a one-piece red bathing suit.
Story: Mai is probably avenging an older brother who was killed by Zenon in some sort of convoluted rivalry that involved motorcycles and anal sex at a techno club. She also seems to be some sort of ninja or something, so that may factor into it but I don't really care.Suzume Hachisuka
Hentai/Anime Archetype: Sporty Japanese schoolgirl.
Appearance: Suzume is the kind of girl who thrives on the spirit of competition, and this is reinforced by the fact that she is wearing stockings that say BATTLE RAPER down the side. I don't know about you, but if I were a girl I would not wear any article of clothing that implied I enjoy being raped.
Story: Suzume is the only character in the game that has entered Zenon's competition that I made up for the sole purpose of enjoyment. She loves to prove how strong she is, and the best way to do that is to beat up and possibly rub the chest of someone who is going to take over the world.Fa Taolee
Hentai/Anime Archetype: Badass in red leather with a stupid fucking pun name.
Appearance: Taking a fashion cue from pirates with a leather fetish, Fa Taolee looks primed to beat someone's ass. Just like all of them she still cries when her face gets raped.
Story: Just a guess here but I'm going to go with her being a mercenary who knows Mai's older brother. They were either friends or lovers (probably friends because the Japanese like to keep all characters pure until defiled) and she is doing the only logical thing she can to seek revenge; entering a rape and fighting contest to rape and fight her way to being fought and raped by Zenon.Chihaya Kagami
Hentai/Anime Archetype: I have no clue, maybe a robotic angel school girl or something.
Appearance: She's wearing a blue school girl costume, she seems overly peppy, and she has mechanical shit coming out of her head and weird ass metal wings coming out of her back. Basically it's like a bus carrying a high school tour group from Tokyo crashed into the Lockheed-Martin jet fighter factory and she was the only survivor.
Story: I'm going with an alien cyborg sent to earth through time to prevent Zenon from conquering the world. It's the only scenario that really makes sense.

The enjoyment I derive from the intricate mosaic of Battle Raper's story is only exceeded by the intense waves of erotic pleasure that surge through me whenever I see tears streaming down the face of someone being force fed an invisible penis.Uh oh! Somebody's pants just got knocked off!Difficulty: The game is extremely easy up until you get to Zenon. You can beat every single one of your torpid opponents by repeating the same attack over and over again. Then when you get to Zenon you will get your ass handed to you immediately, especially after how lazy you get fighting the moronic other girls. When Zenon beats you it will show a lovely movie of your character being raped by him. This is a reward for fighting him I guess. If you do manage to beat him then it shows his blimp exploding. "Hooray".

Defining Moment: Seeing the first grapple attack with the chest rubbing and the first molestation attack with some topless chest rubbing were both certainly eye-openers. However they both pale in comparison to the face rape the first time I experienced it. Each time I pressed a button Zenon forced poor Chihaya's head down on his invisible penis and tears ran down her cheeks. It, much like the entire game, produced a mixture of shock, revulsion, and shame.

Final Thoughts: There's no question that a number of fighting games (as well as other types) include varying levels of cheesecake to entice male gamers into playing. I don't really have a problem with this, it's all fairly innocent even in a game like Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance where breasts sway and hearts are ripped out. What Battle Raper does, very literally, is combine sex and violence into one single package that they have attempted to make entertaining. The violence in the arena is minimal as far as fighting games go (other than the face rapes), but I consider rape to be a magnitude of violence wholly unlike the cartoonish blood-letting in most videogames. I won't deny that the game has excellent graphics for a Hentai game and decent graphics by anyone's standards, but on every other level it is horrid. In fact, if it had bad graphics it might be the worst Hentai game I've played to date.
